Not The Dark Story I Expected

I found this book on Kindle Unlimited and it sounded like a really good, dark romance. At the end of the day, it was good, but not what I had expected. The story wasn't very dark, with a few dark-"ish", softer scenes. It played in the gray areas between dark and light a few times, but mostly is was pretty tame.

Shane "repossesses" Zoey one night from a ruthless crime lord. It turns out that Zoey got lucky, narrowly avoiding having her virginity auctioned off to pay for her best-friend's drug debt. Obviously, Zoey was kind-hearted and incredibly naive, thereby landing her in that situation.

Shane had grown up a foster child, like Zoey. Although they both suffered some incredible hardships at an early age, their situations couldn't have been more different. Shane found himself financially set for life, a business mogul by his late twenties, while Zoey still struggles from day to day, working two jobs while going to college part-time.

When Shane sees Zoey up on that stage, he recognizes her as the baby girl from his past. She has no recollection of Him, beyond his attempts to flirt with her earlier that week at a construction site she was walking past. Now that Shane has her, he has no intention of letting her go again.

Essentially, he holds her hostage in his luxury high rise apartment. They flirt and slowly grow closer. Every once in awhile Zoey would test her limits, prompting a retaliatory BDSM scene so that Shane could reestablish his sense of control. Then, he'd feel remorseful for letting her push him too far. She'd feel bad for pushing him so far. Rinse. Repeat. You've got the idea.

Overall, I did enjoy the story. It was very slow to get going and I think it could have been condensed a bit more, but it was still pretty good. If you lose interest quickly, or need a fast-paced story, this definitely won't be for you. If you're willing to hang in there for a slow-moving, but steady, story, this might be one to try.

Another awesome read from Ember Chase!

I was so excited when this book came out because it had been so long since she released something and I LOVED the Denial series. This book was so good and gripped me right from the start, I couldn’t put it down. There’s a lot of twists and turns and I don’t want to give anything away, but the chemistry between the main characters was amazing. Shane is volatile, ruthless, and alpha to the core. And the sex scenes were delicious. Not too dark, not too sweet. Just right. I was lucky enough to receive a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. It’s a standalone book, but I can’t wait to read about his brothers!!!

This book was HOT HOT HOT and somehow really sweet at the same time. I loved the main character Zoey’s feisty personality. And the hero Shane was AWESOME. Crazy hot, crazy protective, crazy horny and just plain crazy in a good way. It was dark and touching at the same time, I really felt for the characters. Sooo interested in the other books, I can’t wait read what the author comes up with next.

Lovely mix

A very nice mix of horror stories, some disturbing, some funny, some spooky. I've read some of the author's other works and although I loved those books, I liked this even more.

Intuitive and Provocative

David Jester's Little Terrors is a thrilling and fascinating amalgamation of literary genres and intuitive storytelling. The natural flow and provocation of the works within suggest that Jester possesses not only a brilliant imagination, but is a true and talented wordsmith.

While I would not label the collection as existing strictly or explicitly within the horror genre, I would agree that much of the content does appeal to elements and strategies commonly attributed to themes of horror. A few of the works, namely "When the Reaper Smiles," "Wipeout," and "The Sleepover," possess much more of that traditional edge of terror, foreboding, and a sadistic or sinister concluding twist that embodies what so many of us love most about the horror genre, some even showcasing a healthy dose of gore. Other stories in the collection, however, fall much more into the thriller/suspense genre, which is part of what makes this collection so wonderfully entertaining. The author writes just enough to raise the hairs on the neck and arms, before hanging readers on the edge of knowing, begging imaginations everywhere to fill in the blanks of whatever horrors or dread may lie ahead. One included work, "Little Man," accomplishes this effect especially well, being fairly short in length, but long enough to draw readers into what seems to be nothing more than the innocent curiosity of a sweet and endearing child, only to end swiftly on a note that strongly suggests otherwise.

Included works, such as, "Cold" and "Last Words," play more to the psychological elements of more modern horror and suspense, expertly feeding readers the art of morbid mind-play, demented fantasy, and delusional fear. Other works, like, "Ante Up" and "The Polystyrene Man," play on a different element of fear and horror--that of the darker sides of human nature and misfortune. In both stories, the main characters are riddled with misfortune, tragedy, greed, self-loathing, and disdain. Both delve deeper into these darker depths in order to attain success, revenge, or fortune. It is the type of story that, while it doesn't terrify you, it certainly manages to filter the mind and the body with a growing sense of unease and discomfort.

I found myself furiously flying through the individual works of Little Terrors as if I was trapped within the stories myself, and only the final page would set me free. These short works of creative fiction horror and suspense are addicting, to say the least, and one of the most riveting aspects of the collection is that of the actual writing style. The narratives as well as the portions of general description are so meticulous that it truly creates a three-dimensional reality for the reader, and the wording in the narrative is graceful and elegant, which is brilliantly cast in stark contrast to the often crass and profane speech and thought of many of the characters throughout. But for a few editing errors here and there, this collection is a true gem.

Artfully decorated with touches of humor and masterfully doused in the author's intuitive insights into human nature and the concept of fear, Little Terrors is sure to thrill, shock, and stun, and will keep you coming back for more.

Read this guys work. I get a chill and thrill when he puts out a new book.

David Jester may very well possess genius. This is no joke. In the world of Kindle novels his works are gems, and it better only be oversight that his work isn't top shelf soon.

"The Polystyrene Man" is a great story about a writer and the end of nothing. "Wipeout" is a terrifying story about neighbors driven to drive each other to hell.

The stories read so intimately, and autobiographically that I'm very happy David Jester lives on a different continent from me. Yet I fear that as good as his writing is, at some point he'll end up in my city of Los Angeles. When he does, I'm nailing shut my windows and hiding under the covers.

Great Basics Review but Could be Better/Improved

I got 99th percentile on my GMAT 750(49, 42) and i used 3 books: this one, Kaplan's Premier Book, and the Verbal Workbook. I had access to PR book and GMAT Prep, but I did only tests from those. I found Kaplan's materials of quality and difficulty. Some whine that Kaplan is too hard, but that's good - if you can handle Kaplan, you can handle the GMAT. Please see the section at the very bottom of the review - I have included a list of my favorite problems from this book - those are the most fun!

~~~ PROS: ~~~
- Condensed math concept review - straight to the point
- No smart-aleck advice about some stupid tricks - only math review - exactly what I needed
- Solid problems that illustrate a lot of traps and multiple ways of solving them
- Starts with the basics - arithmetic, integers, primes, etc - the stuff that anybody can uses a review of. A lot of applicants underestimate how much they forgot the basics and skim/skip them. I would not do that, and that book does not either.
- Finally, the number of questions and quizzes in this book is impressive. I am giving a short summary of some of the sections of the book and number of quizzes and test questions. Quiz questions are math only; Test questions are GMAT-type questions.

~~~ CONS: ~~~
- No probability or combinations review, which would be very helpful. Get something. I bombed my probability question on the GMAT.
- I went through this book at least 3 times (helping others) and I found that solutions don't include some of the most genius ways to handle the problems. I think the authors of the questions went beyond themselves.
- Errors (even though this is the 6th edition and it barely changed compared to the 1st and 2nd, there are a few typos and just careless errors - it's a shame)
- Not as thorough as the MGMAT guides (those cover more topics in-depth and perhpas a wider area). Also, if you are rusty with math (really rusty), you may want to get the Kaplan Math Foundations or Foundations of GMAT Math by Manhattan GMAT.

1. No significant updates over the years. This book has remained virtually unchanged since the second edition (for the last 8 years). You are welcome to purchase any of the previous editions to have the same effect.
2. It is a good/great book but there are now other great books out there (MGMAT Guides, Veritas Prep Guides) that give this book a run for its money

Finally, please make sure you have a copy of the Official Guide for the GMAT (OG) - if you have not discovered it, I highly recommend you get yourself a copy as it is published by GMAC and contains 900 official GMAT Questions.

Yeah, Math!

As I already have had many courses in Mathematics at university, the content in the book is review. However, if I were a person just entering the Medical Lab Tech program with a need to get up to speed on Math, this would be a good book. It explains the problems and gives good examples and the practice problems have the answers readily at hand.

Pleasantly Surprised!

Wow! I was actually pleasantly surprised by this book.

I didn't think I would take much from it, because I figured it was mostly for guys, but there was a lot of really great ideas for ways to surprise my boyfriend!

The author thinks of pretty much everything that could make your romantic gesture successful (and even warns you against what could go wrong), so it's super easy to implement the ideas right away.

There's a lot of ideas that I couldn't have come up with on my own, and that I've never seen before online. There's simple things that you can do right away, and full-blown dates that take a bit more planning... but I think both would be just as effective for making your partner feel special.

As soon as I was done reading it, I grabbed some arty paper and made my boyfriend a compliments jar. I know it might sound cheesy, but he really liked it!

I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to give their partner that 'melty look' in their eyes. It's a quick and easy read and it gives you immediate results in your love life.

All killer, no filler - Great stuff!

I don’t mind a bit of fluff in relationship/intimacy/dating type books, and to be honest I kind of expect it… but this book was back to front quality. And I loved it!

It takes the guess work out of doing nice things for your significant other. Want to inject some high quality romance into your relationship? Flip to any page and BAM there you go. Instant awesomeness.

At least a dozen of the gestures listed in the book made me stop and say to myself "Well, damn, I never would have thought of that one in a million years."

I also really liked the order of how the book is laid out… the different sections of gestures, plus going from easiest to implement to most challenging to implement. It’s a nice sliding scale approach to match whatever mood you’re in (or whatever occasion you’re doing the romantic gesture for). Sometimes you need something a bit flashier for an anniversary or a birthday or Valentine’s… and this book delivers across the board for any and all occasions.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, man or woman, who wants to bring the spark back to their relationship. Or just to kick things up a notch. Easy five stars from me.
