About the Author
Michael Mulholland has been Professor Emeritus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) since 2012. In 1977, he started his career as senior technical officer at AECI, an explosives and specialty chemicals group located in South Africa. In 1982 he became lecturer and later Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a position he held until his retirement. During his time at the university he was the author of several consulting reports and manuals for the chemical and petroleum industry. He is a member of the South African Institution of Chemical Engineers, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (United Kingdom) and a Chartered Engineer (United Kingdom). Having worked in industry and with over 30 years of teaching experience in process control, Mulholland knows exactly what a graduate process engineer needs to know to work effectively in industry.

I waited for this book a long time the wait was worth it.The book is first class.The book covers german police battalions from the invasion of poland,to the start of the stalingrad campaign july 1942.The book is well researched. Footnotes are at the end of the chapter,not at the end of the book(I like that) The other thing that i like is its readability.The german police is a confusing organization some units were wiped out. Others were combined to form other units. Still others were reassigned,some place else.This book really is informative it cuts through all the red tape.You can read this book and understand what is happening in poland and russia.I would give this book 6 stars,but it doesnt go that high. This book is a must to explain the german police involvement in mass murder and the holocaust.

Explaining the conventional wisdom that no fixed exchange rate regime can hold out for long against massive speculation. He goes further to show that Hong Kong contributed not only to the eventual easing of the AFC, but to economic stability throughout Asia as well.

Jao opens with a discussion of the nature, causes, and consequences of the AFC. After an overview of Hong Kong's economic and financial fundamentals on the eve of the crisis, he examines the impact it had up close. He examines the massive speculation against the Hong Kong dollar, explaining why speculators were defeated. The AFC's impact on the assets market are also explored. He also analyzes the impact on the financial sector and the real economy. Jao studies and answers two hard questions: why was the economic downturn so severe and why was the territory initially a laggard in economic recovery? About the Author

Y. C. JAO is Honorary Professor and Honorary University Fellow in the School of Economics and Finance, University of Hong Kong. He is a past president of the Hong Kong Economic Association and is widely published in the scholarly and professional journals of his field. Among several books he has authored, edited, or co-edited is The Future of Hong Kong: Toward 1997 and Beyond (with Chiu and others, Quorum, 1987).

A solid analysis on the Asian financial crisis in Hong Kong

The publication of a book on the financial crisis in Hong Kong by Y.C. Jao from the University of Hong Kong is most timely. Jao is no stranger to anyone who has studied the banking and financial system in Hong Kong. There is no lack of analysis on the Asian financial crisis. However, this is the first book-length study that focuses on the case of Hong Kong. The analysis is particular timely as Hong Kong is currently in the midst of its severest economic recession since the early 1970s. The book not only clearly analyzes the financial crisis in Hong Kong by putting the events that happened in Hong Kong in the last few years in the larger context of the Asian financial crisis, but further delves into the post-crisis economic recession that Hong Kong is suffering.
The author begins by analyzing the origin, nature, and consequences of the Asian financial crisis. He proceeds on to discuss the financial crisis in Hong Kong by looking at the financial crisis itself focusing on how foreign exchange speculators tried to capitalize on the possible event of the collapse of the Hong Kong dollar and how the government reacted to the crisis by its unprecedented attempts to intervene in the stock market. The story was succinctly told with convincing information put together by the author. Jao then analyzes the impact of the crisis on the asset markets, financial sector, and the real economy. The analysis in the book is clear and solid.
The most interesting part of his book is, however, its attempt to answer two puzzles: (1) Why was Hong Kong's economic downturn so severe, and (2) Why was Hong Kong a laggard in economic recover, and the role China plays in the crisis. Jao points out that while the government was able to defeat the currency speculators in the financial crisis of 1997-98 and successfully defend the currency system, the people of Hong Kong, nevertheless, pay a high price as part of the reason for the continuation of the recession after the crisis is attributed to the currency board - the very system Hong Kong tries to defend. The need to defend the linked exchange rate has forced on the Hong Kong abrupt rises in interest rates severely impacting the assets markets and the real markets through the wealth effect, collateral effect, and the credit availability effects. The intricate relationships amongst these factors are clearly explained in the book.

The translation (provided mainly by Shirley, although many key passages have been translated by Romm) is lively and readable, and Romm's notes provide just the sort of information that a first-time reader of Herodotus would need. Romm's 'Introduction' is perhaps the most valuable aspect of the book. By highlighting the main themes and explaining Herodotus' use of imaginative material, Romm helps the reader make sense of a text that is sometimes unwieldy. Romm also situates Herodotus' work within its historical context, providing sensible answers to important questions such as the publication date of the Histories and Herodotus' views on events in the Peloponnesian War. The volume also includes a chronology of the Archaic Age, maps, and a glossary of important characters and places. In short, Romm and Shirley have produced a valuable desideratum: an excellent, one-volume introduction to Herodotus' Histories. Great text for intro-level course

I bought this text to find selections for an intro-level course in classics that I am teaching. The translator includes selections that my students will be most interested in reading and renders the Greek in lively English prose. I will assign selections from this text to augment my history outine, and I think students will find this an enjoyable (one hopes), or at least quite usable text.

Apt for beginners

This book is well written and well organized. Kudos to the author and all the other members who had involved in designing,publishing this book.

If one would see from a senior Automation tester or Automation test lead point of view, they would say explanation of advanced concepts of qtp, frameworks could have been a bit more better.

For the beginner, intermediate level QTP guys this book would be very useful to initiate,fine-tune their Automation testing skills.
Once again I really appreciate the whole team in publishing this book :-)

Most appropriate book for beginners and for advance learner. Author does not jump on complex concepts at first go rather build the knowledge piece by piece and giving screen shots for better understandings.
Concepts on Automation architecture, frameworks are properly written.
The examples are illustrated well and works fine.By the way, I bought the kindle edition of the book.

About the Author
Rosalind Charlesworth, Ph.D., is professor emerita and retired department chair in the Department of Child and Family Studies at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. During her tenure at Weber State University, she worked with the faculty of the Department of Teacher Education to develop continuity from preprimary to primary school in the program for students in the early childhood education licensure program. She also contributed as a guest presenter in the Elementary Mathematics Methods class. Dr. Charlesworth is known for her contributions to research on early childhood teachers' beliefs and practices. She taught courses in early education and child development at other universities before joining the faculty at Weber State University. In 1999, she was the co-recipient of the NAECTE/Allyn & Bacon Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher Educator award. In 2014 she received the Legacy Award from the WSU Child and Family Studies Department in recognition of her contributions to early childhood education. Dr. Charlesworth has provided service to the field through active involvement in professional organizations and is currently on the editorial board of the Early Childhood Education Journal.

Excellent Child Development Text

Charlesworth, the jack-of-all-trades early childhood writer, gives her version of a child development text, and resultingly produces a gold star effort namely because of her super-extreme focus on details.

She begins with a "how-to" perspective on understanding development then proceeds from prenatal development to the culminating whole child. Lots of pictures, lots of charts, lots of side articles...and PLENTY of research citations for further study and scrutiny.

A must read and have reference!

Hi! I live in Japan and am a children's language school owner. This book is a must read and important reference to anyone serious and committed to teaching children, particularly children as a life's work. I'm still working through the book (even on the train!) and I am now have a great new reference written from an expert in the field. It's like having a licensed co-worker along side with me! Thank you Dr. Charlesworth for your jewels of information, particularly over here in Japan!
