Game On!!

I have always fancied a good erotica novel, and this book by far beats out all competition!! I don't think I will ever look at the men in blue quite the same again!

The mix of story, and hot, steamy sex was so perfectly blended, I not only got lost within its pages, but felt the need for a cold shower after its completion. It's not often a book can spark that kind of emotion, thus making Assume The Position one of the best books of 2011!!!

Excellent, fast paced story...and did I mention Hot!

I'd like to preface this review by saying that I rarely rate a novella above a 3 star. It is really just a matter of opinion, but novellas often feel rushed to me. Lacking in either plot or character development. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with Assume the Position. It's a quick, enjoyable read. Perfect if you're feeling like something naughty.

I have to say that T.C Lee did an excellent job of character development especially for a short story. I thought it was a unique twist that it was the hero that had some hang-ups about sex, usually it's the heroine. Alex was sexy and dominant, my two favorite traits in a hero. Regan was a good mix of innocent and vixen. She was often shy, but still at times brazen. The chemistry between the two was steamy and the romantic scenes were HOT.

I was impressed by how much detail was packed into the story for a novella. There was an interesting twist that I didn't see coming between Regan and her friends. I enjoyed that aspect of the story. However, I wanted to know more about what happened between Regan and her friend Kate. I needed a bit more closure. For me, that was the only thing missing in this story. Still, considering its length, I got much more than I expected from a novella, which is why I rated it higher than usual. I definitely recommend this story for anyone looking for a fast paced, sexy read.

HOLY HOT BOOKS BATMAN! This books is INTENSE! Def not for the feint of heart 18+...if you are easily offended, do not read any further!

T.C Lee has unleashed a sexual tidal wave titled "Assume the Position". When Alex, the playboy police officer with skeletons in his closet meets shy & withdrawn Regan who does not know herself very well, sparks fly and hand cuffs are the ignitor for a very intense story with an incredible story line and plenty of heat to set a huge fire!

In this fast pace Novella by TC Lee, we enter the world of Regan who has a lonely past, a best friend that never has her own interest at heart and a set up date with a guy Regan feels is creepy. Due to her faithfulness to her best friend Kate, she agrees to go out with the creep friend of Kate's boyfriend, Jeremy. Regan knows deep down there is just something off about this guy but Kate is her best friend.

Running late as usual, Regan sees the blue and reds of a police car and knows she is BUSTED for speeding. She never expects a God of a man to walk up to her. She instantly realizes that this man may have what she has been missing her whole life.

Pizza, Donuts, silk and handcuffs. I will say no more. READ THE BOOK. Make sure you do not plan anything for about an hour because you will NOT put this book down!

Destiny, Fate, and Self-Knowledge

_The Monster At The End Of This Book_ (henceforth "TMATEOTB") is a fascinating treatise on several of the philosophical problems lurking at the core of modern and classical thought. The premise -- that, with the turn of each page, the reader brings self-described "lovable, furry Grover" closer to danger at the hands of the title monster -- allows one to question the very nature of free will and destiny. Is Grover doomed to encounter the monster? The conceit that it is the act of turning pages -- the literal act of reading itself -- that causes the ending to come about inevitably leads to the question: Would the book end differently if one _didn't_ finish reading it? On another level, TMATEOTB addresses one of the paradoxes of contemporary physics: The equality of space and time. The "end of the book" is an event in the future, but the monster is not spoken of as "arriving", but as _already being there_. Thus, turning pages moves the reader and Grover not only forward in time, as in most traditional literature, but also forward in space, leading to the perilous End of the Book. Lastly, TMATEOTB is about how we are ultimately at the whim of the cosmic forces that shape our lives. The hapless protagonist tries again and again to stop the reader from turning pages by erecting brick walls and nailing one page to the other. His efforts are futile, but he remains unaware of his essential helplessness in the face of a Reader. Perhaps, the book says, we are ultimately doomed to fail, trapped within the pages of cosmic irony, but unable to prevent or even perceive the inevitability of our encounter with the monster. The shocking twist ending wraps up the disparate threads of the text, presenting issues of self-knowledge, the nature of fear, and the question of what it truly means to be a monster. Perhaps the failure of our quests for safety in an uncertain world isn't so bad, it argues, if it leads to a confrontation like the one depicted in _The Monster At The End Of This Book_.

Giggle Fest

I believe a lot of people can cite "The Monster At the End of This Book" as one of the first books they remember reading as a child. Not only because it featured a beloved character from a TV show many children grew up watching, but because it was probably their first exposure to an interactive story -- instead of simply reading a pre-written tale, children felt they were interacting with Grover himself, and that their actions affected the story itself. Before this book, not many children's books experimented with breaking the fourth wall and addressing the reader directly, and in this sense "Monster" was ahead of its time.

I recently purchased this book for a friend's baby shower gift, and she, too, said it was one of her absolute favorite books as a child and she was eager to share it with her own son when he was old enough. It's heartening to know that a simple children's book can be so beloved by all ages.

As stated before, what makes "Monster" unique is that it's main character, Grover, is fully aware that he's in a book, and tries to tell the reader to not turn the pages -- because the further you read, the closer you get to the end of the book, where supposedly a monster lurks. Grover pleads with the reader, and even resorts to increasingly silly methods to keep the reader from turning the pages. There's even a bit of suspense built up as Grover's fear builds with every page turned, and one can't help but feel a little sorry for him. Naturally, I won't spoil the ending, and I doubt any reader, no matter the age, is going to stop reading to the very end despite all Grover's best efforts.

Also, the art bears mention -- it's a loose and sketchy style, in contrast with the later Sesame Street books that would have relatively crisp and clean artwork, and very few of the pages have actual backgrounds. But I actually rather liked it as a kid, and I still like it now. The story is very simple and no-frills, and so the artwork is made to match. Also, it's nice to have a unique art style in a TV-spinoff book, where most books based on a TV show have generic-looking "canned art" instead of much in the way of creativity.

A fun and unique read for young children, this is a must for any child's library. Young readers will enjoy feeling that they have control over the story, and giggling along to Grover's antics.

If you don't own this book, get it. You won't be disappointed!!!

I had to buy this book on kindle because (sadly) my copy is in storage, and none of the people in the two houses I am connect to most days had ever HEARD of it!!! I was mind boggled. So I bought it on Kindle so that I could read it to each of them.......and yes, the pictures are critical to the story!!

The Monster at the End of this Book is an absolute classic of children's literature. In my opinion, it belongs in every home, at least every home that know about Sesame Street.

I have been reading it to my kids for years.....in my opinion it is better reading it to someone, or having it read to you, than simply reading it to yourself.

If you don't own this book, get it, you won't be disappointed.

About the Author
Timothy Rasinski is a professor of literacy education at Kent State University. He has written over 200 articles and has authored, co-authored or edited over 50 books or curriculum programs on reading education. He is author of the best selling book on reading fluency entitled The Fluent Reader, published by Scholastic, and co-author of the award winning fluency program called Fluency First, published by the Wright Group. His scholarly interests include reading fluency and word study, reading in the elementary and middle grades, and readers who struggle. His research on reading has been cited by the National Reading Panel and has been published in journals such as Reading Research Quarterly, The Reading Teacher, Reading Psychology, and the Journal of Educational Research. Tim is currently writing the fluency chapter for Volume IV of the Handbook of Reading Research.
Tim recently served a three year term on the Board of Directors of the International Reading Association and from 1992 to 1999 he was co-editor of The Reading Teacher, the world's most widely read journal of literacy education. He has also served as co-editor of the Journal of Literacy Research. Rasinski is past-president of the College Reading Association and he has won the A. B. Herr and Laureate Awards from the College Reading Association for his scholarly contributions to literacy education.
Prior to coming to Kent State Tim taught literacy education at the University of Georgia. He taught for several years as an elementary and middle school classroom and Title I teacher in Nebraska.

Kids love this !!!

I teach resource special ed, and it is always a challenge to find something that the students LIKE to do. This is it! Everyday we "do a ladder". I give help and prompting based on the students need. It is easy to tailor this for each student. It improves their vocabulary and teaches them how to think. I have used this series with students from 2nd grade through 5th grade. I LOVE this series.

"I became a painter because I wanted to raise painting to the level of poignancy of music and poetry." Born Marcus Rothkowitz in a small Russian town, Mark Rothko immigrated to Portland, Oregon, in 1913, when he was 10 years old. "You don't know what it is to be a Jewish kid dressed in a suit that is a Dvinsk, not an American, idea of a suit traveling across America and not able to speak English," he later told fellow abstract expressionist Robert Motherwell. Rothko was a weak child, an abandoned son (his father had gone to America in 1910 and died of cancer just seven months after the family was reunited), a Jew excluded from high school clubs, a Yale freshman on scholarship, and a college dropout determined to become an Artist with a capital A. James Breslin has written an exhaustive biography of the painter. He pulled together all the facts of Rothko's life and carefully examined all the strata of the artist's personality--Rothko's sensitivity, his sense of displacement, his pride and his diffidence, his combativeness, his love for his children, his hatred for Marlborough Gallery director Frank Lloyd, and his difficulties with money. The book is flawed only by Breslin's ticlike use of italics, which give the sense of the author tugging at our sleeve in an unnecessary effort to persuade: "Rothko's last and most severe renunciations were made not to remove obstacles between the observer and the idea but in a gesture of personal withdrawal." A hefty, bear-like man with voracious appetites, an alcoholic who withdrew into isolation and took his own life, Mark Rothko (1903-1970) made paintings that transformed despair into transcendent beauty. Breslin's biography, a splendid achievement, exorcises Rothko's private demons and explores how he invented a modern art which enacted his inner drama. Born Marcus Rothkowitz in Russia, raised in Portland, Oregon, from age 10, the painter launched an iconoclastic underground newspaper at Yale, became a "self-made proletarian" in the Depression, and progressed from expressionist urban moodscapes to surreal mythic pictures to the free-floating stacked rectangles that are his trademark. A melancholy man who never felt fully at home in his adopted country, Rothko festered with indignation as an outsider, but once he achieved fame and insider status, he felt corrupted and doomed by it, according to Breslin, a UC-Berkeley Enlgish professor and biographer of William Carlos Williams. The full-bodied fruit of seven years' labor--a zealous, uncommonly kind portrait of one of Abstract Expressionism's irascible masters--from Breslin (William Carlos Williams, 1970). Marcus Rothkowitz, born in 1903 in the Russian city of Dvinsk, emigrated with his family in 1913 to Portland, Oregon. Rebellious as a youth, he dropped out of Yale after a taste of refined Eastern anti-Semitism, turning instead to Manhattan and the painter's life. Impoverished, Rothko lived in a series of cold-water flats and run- down neighborhoods during the Depression and WW II, often confronting the city's museum establishment, which then had eyes only for European art. The painter's first wife's money demands--as well as the success of her jewelry business, which turned him at times into her salesman--resulted in divorce; but with remarriage in 1945 to the young, adoring Mell, Rothko came to be seen as one of a distinctly American group of artists. In the late 1940's, he embraced the abstract luminous colors and rectangular forms that became his trademark, and, in the hands of aggressive dealers, he went rapidly from rags to riches. Still defiant, he returned, after two years' work, a commission to paint panels for the celebrated Four Seasons restaurant when he realized that his efforts could be only decorative. Other commissions followed, but Rothko's colors darkened as his health and marriage deteriorated. In 1970, in despair and pressured by his dealer to sell more paintings, he committed suicide. Providing an expansive view of Rothko and his milieu, and rich in information about the New York art scene--but a breathless enthusiasm for his subject leads Breslin to descriptive excess, especially with regard to individual paintings. For Rothko, the best a book can do

No book can do Mark Rothko justice. He painted on large
canvases. To know him is to confront his original work
on the wall before you. Find your distance, 10, 15,
maybe 30 feet back. Yet to make sense of his
colored rectangles tearing themselves apart in fission,
as well as his earlier, quite different work, some
background helps.
Breslin's book will become the standard reference, but
not perhaps the starting point. He writes engrossingly,
but the 558 pages of text, I fear, will discourage the
casual reader (who might do well to read Robert
Hughes's paragraphs in American Visions).
Still, for the motivated reader, James Breslin's bio is
awesome. The Latvian Jew, charity student at
antisemitic Yale in the early 20s, uncomfortable and
smarter than most there, comes alive, as does his love
for children and their art, as well as his tormented
first marriage to a wife commercially successful during
the Great Depression making jewelry that sold. Rothko
had higher ambitions: fine art spelled with a capital
"A". As Breslin relates, discomfort never disappeared.
Success and recognition did not go over well with
this self-described anarchist who, as a Portland
teenager, enthusiastically took in lectures by Emma
Goldman. Overall, Breslin provides a biographical and
historical foundation with which to understand Mark
Rothko's painting. I am grateful for that.
Finally, of the many biographies I've read, James EB
Breslin's stands out for another reason: in his
Afterword, he turns from Rothko to himself and
addresses his own motivations and challenges in writing
the biography. Biographies are never "objective", so it
makes sense that a biographer might address his own
motivations. In the descriptions of the dangers of
doing research in Rothko's birthplace of Dvinsk, in
interviewing art historian Clement Greenberg, Rothko
reappears again, this time indirectly, one step
removed. That Breslin can bring Rothko alive in these
different contexts is testament to the enduring value
of this long, challenging biography.

Read This Book

I am a painter, an art professor, and a reader of biographies. I couldnt put this book down. Breslin did a magnificent job of getting inside the psyche of Rothko as a man, and as an artist. The paragraphs that describe the way in which Rothko created one of his paintings is absolutely inspired....I had goose-bumps reading it, because it seemed as if Breslin,unlike many writers who say they have observed artists, actually understood the process of creation and the passion behind it. I have never written a fan letter to a writer, but I began one to Mr.Breslin. Imagine my distress and sorrow when I read the next day in the paper that he had passed away! But this book lives as a testament to his thorough research and love of the subject. Get this book and read it....if you love art, artists, or scholarship,you will not be disappointed.

One of the best books on art let alone Rothko

Only a few biographies of artists are any good. A Giacometti Portrait by James Lord and Picasso by John Richardson and Jackson Pollock by Steven Naifeh come to mind. After reading this excellent biography I must place it with these great books. I am tired of reading art critics who obscure great art rather than illuminate it. This work opens up to the layman in simple and clear writing the beauty and complexity of this modern artist in his struggle to create meaningful and profound art. In this post modernist world such ambitions are scoffed at. Irony is easy but to be profound is the most dangerous thing an artist can attempt. He risks being pompous and bombastic. But Rothko avoids these pitfalls and in the process has become one of our greatest artists. I hope you have as much fun reading this as I did. Books like this are rare. Get it.

dangerous over the long term.

I practiced Bikram yoga for 2 years, and bought this book in the hope of deepening my practice. Unfortunately the book was written in the same language that all the instructors use. In fact, the instructors are sent to teacher training in order to learn to recite dialogue. Bikram Chodhury is a narcissistic egomaniac and it is apparent in the writing of this book. The sequence gets boring, and I have injuries from practicing the same movements every day in the heat. Since I quit Bikram, I have taken over 500 hours of teacher training (not Bikram). My advice to everyone out there practicing is to never ever ever lock your knees as they recommend in this style of teaching. I flexed my quadriceps as they recommend in an effort to make this safe, but years later my knees are still hyperextending to an alarming degree. The heat causes your ligaments to soften and stretch, so keeping a micro-bend in the knee is highly advisable. Bikram yoga is a great gateway into the wonderful world of yoga, but I don't recommend making it a regular part of your life for very long.

Good book for reference, goes great with CD

So, Bikram yoga. this is the best yoga for a complete workout by far... Now, I have worked out in a bikram studio for about a year, but the times and distance did not work for me. So, what I did was order the complete CD from Bikramyoga.com it has bikram himself running you through the entire class, then I use the book for reference. I have a small room at home that I put a space heater and a warm humidifier in heat up the room to about 90degrees turn on the Cd and do my yoga workout at home.. if you have the chance to go to a studio at least once I suggest that you do that, because there are little nuances that the instructors go over that you don't get in a book or CD.. Now I have my hot Bikram yoga whenever I want at home. I love it.!

One of the more beneficial forms of Yoga I have found for my body - Bikram Yoga is my Fountain of Youth.

After 40 years of practicing Bikram Yoga, I speak from inner truth that my body loves and needs these specific asana (postures) performed in sequence every time to regain physical balance from the onslaught of toxicity in the air, food, water and stress caused by local / global social unrest. This regimen allows the total body mechanics to create muscuar and cellular memory through repetition. The postures are never boring as one becomes more ingrained and sensitive to how the postures feel in the body AND how we feel after we've completed the asanas to our best ability on any given day.

To explore the history of Choudhury Bikram and how he came to create this 26-asana practice, one can appreciate his early beginnings and influencers such as Bishnu Ghosh, brother of Parahamsa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi). While there are hundreds of Yoga postures, this practice focuses on 26, each scientifically chosen to reach every part of the body during a 90-minute session - creating and sustaining inner life force so we may acknowledge and share our life purpose with clarity, balance, determination, fortitude and strength.
